What We Do

Who Are the D200 Music Boosters?

The D200 Music Boosters is a parent run organization whose sole purpose is to support and supplement the music programs and music students in all D200 schools.  We are an official 501(c)(3) charitable organization and follow strict guidelines to maintain that status.

Monthly meetings are held during the school year, with the exception of December, and many of our meetings open with student performances.  Our elected officers include a president, vice president, treasurer, recording secretary and corresponding secretary.  Each serves a 2-year term but may be re-elected for up to 4 terms.  In addition to elected officers,  the Boosters have many appointed committee chair persons who head up fundraisers, publicity, and other activities.  Meetings are open to the public- we encourage and welcome new members!

Each school has at least one parent representative who provides valuable support to the music program at his or her school.  These site reps directly support the music programs and students through chaperoning, organizing events, selling tickets, helping with fundraisers, signing off on purchase requests,  representing their school at the monthly meetings, among other things.

The Boosters raise money in a variety of ways including the sale of:

  • Booster Discount cards
  • “got music?” clothing
  • Taffy Apples
  • Citrus
  • Poinsettias

Also

  • Restaurant fundraisers
  • Spring plant sale
  • Spaghetti dinners
  • Memberships

Some of these are district wide-fundraisers, others are facility specific.

Each year we hold a Used  Instrument Drive during which time we accept donated musical instruments, with the exception of pianos and organs.  We make any necessary repairs before getting them into the hands of students that may not otherwise be able to participate in band.  This year we have also begun accepting recorders.  While March is the month that we officially hold the drive, we accept instruments throughout the year.  These donations are tax deductible.

We are particularly proud of the scholarships we provide to students to attend summer music camps and private lessons through the sale of our annual Booster Discount card.  Last year alone, we helped over 50 middle and high school students develop their musical talents.  We believe that these scholarship opportunities allow the students to return to their music programs in the fall, with new levels of confidence and leadership which further support the D200 Music Programs in which they are involved.
