The Opera Comes to Olson!

On Wed., April 15th, Opera for the Young will perform an adapted version of Andre Gretry’s Beauty and the Beast at 1 p.m.  In addition to the afternoon performance, OFtY will also provide a full day Artists-In-Residency program.  This performance was made possible by a grant from the District 200 Education Foundation while the enhanced residency program was made possible with the help of the D200 Music Boosters. Our students are very fortunate to participate in this unique enrichment.   All students will have the opportunity to engage with the artists from Opera for the Young in grade level sessions where they will learn more about Opera and asking specific questions to the Opera Stars. The performance will be Wednesday, April, 15th at 1:00 P.M. in the Olson Gymnasium.  16- 4th grade students will have the opportunity to perform with the Opera singers, ON-STAGE, in roles as the chorus of birds.  Two of those students will play additional roles as a Banana and a Strawberry.  An additional 16 students and the 5th grade chorus will provide the “Off-Stage’ chorus who will sing along with the opera stars.  In total, 80 students will participate in meaningful roles during the performance!
